overview

Since 2015, Conscious Impact has worked directly with the community of Takure and other villages across Sindhupalchok, Nepal to support sustainable agriculture. Our passions are reforestation, sustainable agroforestry, permaculture and sustainable livelihoods. 99% of local community members engage in agriculture, and therefore the best way to support local families is through agriculture. Every tree planted provides additional annual income to a local family of up to USD 500 (50,000 NPR), which supports their quality of life greatly.

Planting coffee trees is good for the earth, good for local families and good for all of us. Come join us in Takure!

Coffee Tree Planting - Our Past Programs

our past programs

since 2016, Conscious impact has planted more than 20,000 coffee trees alongside local farmers

Every year, from April - June, we plant hundreds and thousands of trees across the region

Farmers want to plant coffee and other trees, but they do not always have the time, energy and resources to make this happen. That is where Conscious Impact supports. We provide the trees, grown from seed in our nursery, and help to dig the holes, carry the compost, plant the trees and care for the trees for years to come. During this 6-day program, you will spend each day on local farmers’ land supporting them in any way that you can.

let’s plant trees in 2023!

The 6-day Coffee Tree Planting Program is designed to give you hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture and agroforestry while you support local farmers to plant hundreds of trees in the Himalayas.

No agriculture or tree planting experience is required. All ages welcome!

6-Day sample Itinerary

Day 0, May 7th (or earlier): Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal. Spend one night (or more) in Kathmandu. Explore local cultural and historical sites.

Day 1, May 8th: Meet the Conscious Impact team and other program participants in Kathmandu at 8am to travel to the project site (4-6 hours). Once you arrive, you will receive lunch, a tour of our camp, orientation, a sunset walk and dinner by 7pm.

Day 2, May 9th: Enjoy a morning “Community and Projects Tour” during which you will explore Takure, be introduced to the Conscious Impact projects, visit the nearby town of Nawalpur and meet local community members. After lunch, you will visit our tree nursery, the Coffee Cooperative and a local coffee farm to understand the process of coffee - from seed to cup.

Day 3, May 10th: Let’s plant trees! From morning (8am) until the afternoon (4:30pm) you will work alongside our Nepali Agriculture team, as well as a local farming family, to support them to plant dozens of trees on their land. This includes digging holes, carrying compost, collecting leaves, planting the trees and watering the trees. Your specific tasks can vary depending on your interests and physical capacity. All ages and abilities welcome!

Day 4, May 11th: In the morning, you will learn to weave with rice straw at a local family home. This is an old tradition of the area and an amazing craft to experience. In the afternoon, you will visit the local primary school with our Youth Empowerment team to meet the students, play games and support the Afterschool Program.

Day 5, May 12th: Another full day of tree planting! We will partner with another local farmer to plant dozens of trees on their land. Bring your gloves and boots, or get your toes in the soil, to help gather compost, dig holes and plant and water trees. The more volunteers we have, the more trees we can plant!

Day 6, May 13th: After a delicious breakfast, you will pack your bags and depart back to Kathmandu at 9am, arriving in the city by 2-3pm. You can spend a few nights in the city, visit other places in Nepal or return back home. There are many great hikes and tourist activities in the region if you are interested.

NOTE: The exact itinerary is always subject to change as the needs and schedules of the local farmers change. We thank you in advance for your understanding and flexibility.
